Title Summary
Deriving the data largely from the official publications of the various national governments, this statistical handbook provides historical economic statistics for all of the countries of the Americas over the past two and a half centuries. Tables on population and vital statistics cover population numbers for cities and administrative divisions, infant mortality rates, international migrations, and related data. A section on labor force provides tables on economically active population by industrial groups, unemployment numbers and percentages, industrial disputes, and wages in industry and agriculture. Sections covering agriculture and industry present data covering output and exports numbers for a wide range of products. External trade is dealt with in tables detailing trade aggregates, trade with main trading partners, and major commodity exports by main exporting countries. Wholesale price and consumer price indices are included, as are statistics on transport, communications, and education. A section on finance offers data on currency in circulation, deposits in commercial banks, savings banks deposits, money supply, and total central government expenditure and revenue. Finally, national accounts totals, proportions of gross domestic product by sector of origin, and balance of payments are covered. Annotation ©2005 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
